The heart has not always been associated with romantic love, it was not until the 13th century that someone got the idea. Our beloved heart can today however be seen in many other places - at the outhouse, on playing cards, like gingerbread etc.
In 1986 the game designer Shigeru Miyamoto let the heart symbolize the health of the main character Link, in the Nintendo game "The Legend of Zelda". The hearts also symbolized life, that ended too often. The symbolism is now a classic in computer games.
The game marked the start of one of history's most beloved and legendary game series, which today takes on new forms of games and is played by millions of children - and adults.
Our retro pattern with hearts in cross has been named after Link. As a tribute to his tireless effort to rescue Princess Zelda from Ganon king of darkness - all in the name of love.
