A cross stitch pattern that breathes folk art and gourd - reminiscent of the province of Dalarna.
The Swedish musician and tv-host Kalle Moraeus is born in the city of Orsa, Dalarna. He has in recent years become one of Swedens most beloved entertainers, and unofficial ambassador of the province. Before he became known to the broad masses by playing with Orsa Fiddlers and Benny Andersson´s Orchestra, he was employed at the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra. What many people probably don’t know is that in 1984 he also became Swedish air guitar champion. It felt natural for us to name an embrodiery pattern inspired by Dalarna after Kalle!
Gourd painting arose in the towns of Leksand and Mora in Dalarna around the 1780s. The art is characterized by fantasy plants with large floral and leaf bundles, where the pumpkin decorations that are included in the patterns has given its name to the style. The name gourd comes from the Latin cucurbita and the German word Kürbis, meaning just pumpkin.
This embroidery pattern is part of the Svarta Fårets collection.
